In Safe Hands

In Safe Hands projectThe launch of Leeds Tenants Federation's Adult Safeguarding Policy marks our commitment to promoting the safety and well-being of all vulnerable people in the city.

That is why we are building a network of people in evey neighbourhood in the city who are trained to recognise the signs of abuse and neglect of children, young people and vulnerable adults. This network of people from residents groups will be trained to be safeguarding champions and we are interviewing, training and police checking a network of volunteers who will be confident that they know how to spot and how to refer cases ofabuse.

We have already run four training sessions for residents who are nominated by their residents associations . These safeguarding sessions have been attended by 31 people so far, and these volunteers are going on to be police checked and to take part in further training delivered by the Leeds Safeguarding Children Board.

Leeds Tenants Federation has also revised its Child Protection Policy to provide a model policy for community groups and it is actively seeking accreditation with the NSPCC.

A resource pack for residents groups wanting to work with young people, called The Good Ideas Pack, including tips of planning activities, assessing risk and getting insurance, has been published by Leeds Tenants Federation and is available from the link to the right.
