Watmos Community Homes

Watmos Community Homes

In Watmos Community Homes tenant management has become community control. In 2003 eight tenant management organisations in Walsall joined together to form a tenant controlled housing company.

Watmos Community Homes was formed in a tenant-led stock transfer to preserve tenant management in the face of the Council's plans to transfer its homes to a housing association. Unlike a normal housing association, Watmos is controlled by its member TMOs and most decisions are taken at a local level.

Watmos provides the support services, like legal services, to the locally-based tenant run areas. Each Tenant Management Organisation has its local housing office and local staff, managed by a tenant board. But tenants also own the company and the properties. This is a housing association constitutionally committed to local tenant control.
